Nuu-chah-nulth Elder Greta Charlie Smoking Salmon ʕapłckʷii (Dried Fish), with Guest Tom Campbell

The Nuu-chah-nulth people thrive off of the ocean and its offerings. During salmon season Greta Charlie from Ahousaht First Nation uses her smokehouse to make ʕapłckʷii (up-skwii) or dried fish. Her son Richard Thomas provides the fish, and community members such as Tom Campbell check in and offer help as needed. Watch as Tom explains how Greta smokes her fish. This video was made in partnership with the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and the National Indigenous Diabetes Association.
