Wakashan

The Wakashan region includes a diversity of geography and cultures on the pacific northwest coastal mainland and across what is currently known as Vancouver Island, as well as relatives on the Olympic Peninsula. Language families and Nations include: 

  • Haisla
  • Heiltsuk/Owik’ala
  • Kwakwaka’wakw 
  • Nuu-chah-nulth

Some of the main foods from this region include:

Water: Seals, Prawns, Salmon, Sea Otter, Shellfish, Oolichan, Herring Eggs, Abalone, Whales, Eelgrass 

Land: Salmonberry, Salal berries, Elderberries Swans, Ducks, Swans, Ducks
