Tee Cha Chitl – Getting Well Again, A Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council Diabetes Approach

The Nuu-chah-nulth Peoples are strong and resilient. Indigenous communities have higher rates of type 2 diabetes compared to non-indigenous populations. The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) started the Tee Cha Chitl – Getting Well Again approach to preventing and supporting diabetes 20 years ago and today it continues in many forms. In this film community members and elders share the impacts of diabetes on their lives, how they have overcome their diabetes, the importance of traditional foods and physical activity, and the Nuu-chah-nulth approach to diabetes support through a healthy mind, body and spirit. NTC staff share the path forward to support diabetes including the Nuu-chah-nulth vision of a Diabetes Wellness Retreat. The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council Diabetes Approach is visualized in this breathtaking film by King Tide Films.
