Ahousaht’s First Diabetes Wellness Retreat (2024): tee cha chitl “getting well again |to come alive”

The First Nation of Ahousaht held it’s first diabetes and wellness retreat on Tla-o-qui-aht territory in March 2024. The retreat took a diabetes wellness approach that centred traditional foods and food system engagement, traditional healers (from Uut Uuštukyuu Society) and ceremony, and the importance of gathering with family and community for healing. The gathering was supported by the Ahousaht Nation, Uut Uuštukyuu Society, and the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, with financial support from the New Relationship Trust and BC NEIHR.
