K’nmaĺka? Sənqâĺtən: Kalamalka Garden

K’nmaĺka? Sənqâĺtən Garden, located at Okanagan College’s Vernon campus, is a collaborative Indigenous garden showcasing plants significant to Syilx Okanagan people. Created in 2017 by the Okanagan Indian Band, Okanagan College, and the Food Action Society, it serves as a tranquil space for cultural education and community connection. Featuring traditional food and medicinal plants like sage, bitterroot, and berries, the garden integrates traditional knowledge, emphasizing sustainable planting practices. It also offers workshops and opportunities for Indigenous students and Elders to share cultural teachings, fostering intergenerational learning and the preservation of Syilx Okanagan traditions.
