Reviving traditional Coast Salish food knowledge

In this article, the challenges faced by Coast Salish people in preserving traditional food practices amid land loss and cultural disruptions since the 1850s are explored. It highlights their ongoing efforts to overcome barriers and revitalize their connection to traditional foods while honoring cultural values. This article features interviews with local tribal members and experts to discuss the traditions, special preparations, and greater meaning of food in their culture. This work is an excerpt from the Salish Bounty exhibit created by the Burke Museum in 2012.
