Métis Food (In)security and Food as Medicine
As this report shows, a higher proportion of Métis people experience food insecurity than other British Columbians, due to a variety of complex
historic, societal, and interconnected factors. Ongoing and often increased food insecurity during the pandemic led to many innovative community responses and highlighted the vital role of food as medicine in addressing this issue. This discussion recognizes both the historic and ongoing impacts of colonialism and the critical links between food, culture, and health.
