Na-Dene, Algonquian

The extensive Na-Dene, Algonquian region is home to a large number of Nations who have lived on these territories for millenia, from the Rocky Mountains and interior plateau and across the colonial borders of Alberta and the Yukon. This region includes the following language families and Nations: 

  • Dalkelh (Carrier) 
  • Dena-Tha’
  • Dunne-za 
  • Kaska Dena 
  • Sekani / Tse’khene
  • Tagish 
  • Tahltan 
  • Tsilhqot’in 
  • Southern Tutchone
  • Lake Babine Nation
  • Wet’suwet’en

Some of the main foods from this region include:

Water: Trout, Whitefish, Chinook, Sockeyet, Coho

Land: Willow bark, labrador tea, rice root, wild carrots, blueberry, nodding onions, saskatoon berry, soapberry, yarrow, wild potatoes, Caribou, Moose, Beaver, Ducks, Grouse
