Nourishing Futures Sustainable Indigenous School Food Programs

This event invited speakers to share their stories of success and challenges about how Indigenous communities are developing sustainable school food programs (meaning how they are working towards longer-term funding, involvement, and other aspects to support their programs to thrive in the longer term). The following speakers shared their experiences: Brady Weiler (Maskwacîs Education Schools Commission), Tammy Shakotko (Meadow Lake Tribal Council), Bryce Ross (Skeetchestn Community School). The Indigenous School Food Circle is an initiative co-hosted by the Coalition for Healthy School Food, Canadian Feed the Children, and Farm to Cafeteria Canada that has been established to inform advocacy for funding for school food programs in Indigenous communities and for Indigenous students and to support replication, networking, and sharing of best practices among those who are coordinating and supporting school food programs in Indigenous communities and for Indigenous students.
